The Godda administration has suspended the registration of a private ultrasound clinic in Mahagama after an examination was allegedly conducted without the presence of its registered sonologist, officials said. The clinic has been ordered to remain closed until further directions under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC&PNDT) Act.
The facility operates from a private hospital at the Mahagama block headquarters. The administrative action followed an incident involving 25-year-old Aditya Sah, who underwent an ultrasound examination at the clinic while the registered sonologist, Dr Shipra Shivani, was reportedly absent.
According to the report, a male staff member allegedly conducted the examination and prepared the report. The report was later issued in Dr Shivani’s name using her digital signature. The account has been attributed to officials and remains an allegation forming the basis of the administration’s action.
The matter came to light after Sah, who was unwell, visited the community health centre in Mahagama. Doctors there advised him to undergo an ultrasound examination. The subsequent circumstances prompted attention from the district health administration.
Godda deputy commissioner Lokesh Mishra directed civil surgeon Dr Subhash Chandra Sharma to initiate action against the clinic. Sharma said the clinic’s registration had been suspended with immediate effect and that its management had been asked to explain the circumstances under which the examination was conducted.
“An ultrasound examination can be performed only by the registered sonologist,” Sharma said, according to the report. The statement sets out the administration’s position that the examination should not have taken place in the absence of the authorised specialist.
The suspension places the clinic’s operations on hold while the administration considers the explanation sought from its management. The action also highlights the role of district authorities in monitoring private diagnostic facilities operating alongside public health centres in smaller urban and semi-urban settlements.
For patients, the case underscores the importance of knowing whether diagnostic examinations are being conducted by the registered professional named by a facility. The supplied report does not state whether any further medical or legal action has been initiated against individuals connected with the examination.
The clinic will remain closed until further orders. The next formal step is the submission and examination of the management’s explanation by the district administration.
