Bayer’s ₹200 Crore Karnataka Plant Brings 220 Jobs Near Bengaluru

Bayer Science and Innovation will invest ₹200 crore to establish a manufacturing facility near Bengaluru, with the Karnataka government saying the project will generate around 220 employment opportunities over seven years. The announcement follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the company and the state government on Friday.

The MoU was signed in Bengaluru by Karnataka Industries Department Principal Secretary S Selvakumar and Bayer Chief Financial Officer Vineet Jindal in the presence of Large and Medium Industries Minister M B Patil, according to a government release reported by The Hindu BusinessLine.

The investment will be made in phases over the next seven years, Minister Patil said. Bayer is expected to use the facility to manufacture products including fertilisers, pesticides and fungicides. The announcement did not specify the exact site, project capacity, land area or the value of supporting infrastructure required for the facility.

Patil said discussions with senior Bayer representatives took place during his recent visit to Amsterdam as part of efforts to attract investment to Karnataka. The company is keen to take up the project at the earliest, according to the minister.

Bayer intends to conduct the groundbreaking ceremony before the Global Investors’ Meet scheduled for April next year and wants manufacturing operations to begin without delay, Patil said. The proposed timeline places the project within the state’s broader effort to convert investment commitments into operating industrial facilities, although the MoU itself does not establish a final commissioning date.

The project would expand Bayer’s existing footprint in Karnataka. The company already operates a Service and Innovation Hub in Bengaluru and a Crop Testing Centre in Chamarajanagar. Bayer has been present in India for 125 years and employs around 11,000 people across the country, the minister said.

Bayer currently operates seven manufacturing facilities and three Global Engineering Centres in India, according to details cited by Patil. The new facility would add to that national manufacturing network while strengthening the company’s presence in Karnataka beyond research, services and crop testing.

For the state, the immediate next steps are the project’s phased investment process and preparations for the proposed groundbreaking ceremony ahead of the Global Investors’ Meet. Details on the final location, approvals, construction schedule and production capacity were not provided in the announcement.
