MakeMyTrip has acquired a majority stake in Bengaluru-based shared mobility platform Quick Ride, marking its entry into ride pooling for daily urban commutes and intercity travel. The travel technology company announced the transaction on Friday, but did not disclose the value of the deal.
Quick Ride enables users to carpool with people travelling on similar routes. Its asset-light platform has been used by enterprises, corporates, IT parks and business campuses to support employee commuting. The acquisition gives MakeMyTrip a presence in high-frequency travel within cities, alongside its existing ground transportation businesses.
“Ride pooling gives us a presence in high-frequency daily commutes within cities, as well as intercity travel,” Rajesh Magow, co-founder and group chief executive officer of MakeMyTrip, said in a statement. He said the company was joining the ride-sharing ecosystem, which could help ease traffic congestion by enabling more people to share their daily journeys.
The ride-pooling business will be housed within MakeMyTrip’s ground transportation portfolio. The company said it would draw on the experience of its redBus business in India and overseas markets to grow and scale Quick Ride. The move extends MakeMyTrip’s role beyond ticketing and booking into a service linked to repeated, everyday urban travel.
Quick Ride’s brand and ride-pooling business have undergone an internal restructuring and are now housed under a new entity, Co Ride Mobility Private Limited. Quick Ride’s promoters will continue to lead the business. The platform’s former electric vehicle taxi business will remain with the predecessor entity, iDisha Info Labs Private Limited.
“We built Quick Ride to make it easier for people to connect and share their everyday journeys,” KNM Rao, founder and chief executive officer of Quick Ride, said. He described the transaction as an important milestone for the company and its user community, adding that Quick Ride would use MakeMyTrip’s reach and travel-sector experience to scale the business.
The acquisition also fits into MakeMyTrip’s recent expansion across adjacent travel services. The company has acquired Savaari in car rentals, Happay in corporate travel and expense management, Flamingo Transworld in regional group holiday packages and Atlys in visa processing. Prakash Sangam, chief executive officer of redBus and head of ground transport at MakeMyTrip, said the group saw an opportunity to serve customers across different journeys, from daily office travel to weekend trips home.
The companies did not disclose the acquisition value, user numbers, operating targets or a timeline for integration. The immediate organisational change places the ride-pooling operation within MakeMyTrip’s ground transport portfolio while keeping Quick Ride’s promoters responsible for leading the business.
