Pune Hotel Raid Exposes Alleged Trafficking Network, Two Women Rescued

Police have raided the Crowne Plaza hotel on Pune’s Sangamwadi–Bund Garden Road and rescued two women after allegedly uncovering a prostitution operation involving intermediaries who brought women from other states to the city. A case has been registered against four people at the Koregaon Park police station.

According to police information reported by Civic Mirror – Pune, the action followed information received by the Human Trafficking Unit that women were being brought to Pune through agents and allegedly induced into prostitution with promises of money. The hotel is located near the Excise Colony on the Sangamwadi–Bund Garden Road.

The operation was planned by a team led by Police Inspector Ashalata Khapre of the Human Trafficking Unit. Police first sent a decoy customer to the hotel to verify the information received by the unit. After the police team confirmed the information, it conducted a raid at the premises.

Two women were rescued during the operation. Both are from outside Maharashtra and were described in the report as being connected with the modelling sector, based on preliminary information. Their identities have not been disclosed. Police are investigating their backgrounds and how they were allegedly brought into the operation.

The people booked in the case include Rohan, also known as Rajkumar, aged 32; Vivek, also known as Mayank Kabir, aged 34; and Vikram, also known as Piyush, aged 34. The report states that all three are residents of Assam. A fourth associate has also been named in the case, but the report does not provide that person’s identity.

The case has been registered at Koregaon Park police station. Police are examining whether the alleged group had links with other people and what channels were used to bring the women to Pune. The investigation is also expected to establish the circumstances in which the women became involved and the role, if any, of other intermediaries.

The raid places attention on the use of commercial hospitality spaces in alleged trafficking and prostitution networks. However, the police investigation will determine the specific roles of the accused and establish the facts of the case. The report does not state whether the hotel management or staff have been booked or questioned.

The rescued women remain central to the investigation as police seek further information about their movement to Pune and the circumstances described in the complaint. The Koregaon Park police are conducting the further probe.
