An Indore crane accident near Navdapanth bridge on Airport Road killed two branch managers of a finance company after a crane hit their motorcycle on Friday night, with police investigating the collision and the role of the crane driver.
The deceased were identified as Rohit Meena, a resident of Sugaon, and Naushad, who was from a village near Karai in Shajapur district. The two men were travelling from Jhabua to Indore to attend a company meeting.
According to their colleagues, the four employees were travelling on two motorcycles. Rohit and Naushad were on one bike while their colleagues were riding the other. The first motorcycle stopped after the two colleagues fell behind, and the pair was waiting for them when the crane allegedly rammed into their motorcycle.
The two men suffered serious injuries in the collision. Their colleagues, who were approaching the location, witnessed the accident and rushed to assist them. They informed the police and took the injured men to the district hospital, where both later succumbed to their injuries.
The incident occurred on Airport Road near Navdapanth bridge, an important road link in Indore that carries local traffic as well as vehicles travelling into the city. The report did not specify the operating status of the crane, whether it was travelling to or from a construction site, or whether any traffic-control measures were in place at the location.
Chandan Nagar police said they were investigating the circumstances leading to the collision and the role of the crane driver. The report described the crane as speeding, while the claim that it rammed into the motorcycle was attributed to the circumstances being examined by the police.
The deaths prompted several employees of the finance company to reach the hospital after receiving the information. The bodies were taken for post-mortem examination on Saturday afternoon. Rohit’s body was sent to MY Hospital, while Naushad’s body was kept at the district hospital.
The case brings the immediate risks faced by two-wheeler users into focus when they share busy urban roads with large construction and industrial vehicles. Unlike motorcycles, cranes have substantial blind spots, longer stopping distances and greater mass, making the circumstances of any collision particularly important for investigators. The supplied report, however, does not establish whether a traffic violation, mechanical failure, road condition or another factor caused the crash.
Police are continuing to investigate the collision. Further details on the crane driver, any action taken in the case and the findings of the post-mortem examinations were not available in the supplied report.
