Factory managements in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet districts must complete their factory licence renewal for 2027 by October 31, 2026, according to the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH), Chennai.
Additional Director of Industrial Safety and Health C. Saravanan has instructed factories operating within the four-district jurisdiction to renew their licences in accordance with the Factories Act, 1948, and the Tamil Nadu Factories Rules, 1950.
The renewal process can be completed online through the DISH portal at dish.tn.gov.in. Factory managements are required to pay the prescribed fee through the portal. Once payment is successfully completed, the renewed licence will be generated automatically and made available for download.
The online process means factory representatives do not need to visit DISH offices in person to complete the renewal. The department has advised managements to submit their applications before the deadline to avoid penalties and possible disruption linked to non-compliance.
Applications received after October 31 will attract penalties under the applicable Acts and Rules. The notice does not specify the amount of the penalty, which will depend on the relevant legal provisions governing the factory and its licence.
Factories operating without a valid licence will be liable for legal proceedings before the competent court, according to the direction issued by the industrial safety and health authority. The requirement applies to factory managements within Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet districts.
The renewal requirement places the compliance process within the wider regulatory system governing factories in one of Tamil Nadu’s major industrial and employment regions. For establishments, the immediate administrative task is to complete fee payment and download the automatically generated licence before the October 31 cut-off. The DISH online portal is the designated channel for the process.
