Alstom, a global leader in rail transportation, has delivered the 300th WAG-12B electric locomotive to the Indian Railways. The locomotives are part of a massive order of 800 engines signed by the Indian Railways and Alstom in 2018, valued at INR 40,000 crore, spread over 10 years.
All 800 locomotives included in the order will be delivered by 2028, with 100 trains manufactured every year as part of the contract. The WAG-12B locomotive, with a horsepower of 12,000-HP, will be used for faster movement of goods, particularly coal and iron ore, as the Indian Railways seeks to increase its market share in cargo transportation in India.
The new high-speed locomotives are expected to revolutionise the freight transportation system in India, making it more efficient and cost-effective. The delivery of the 300th locomotive is a significant milestone in the project, with the remaining 500 trains to be delivered over the next few years.
The Indian Railways has been working closely with Alstom to develop a modern and reliable transportation system. The delivery of the 300th high-speed freight locomotive is a testament to the success of their partnership and the progress made in improving the country’s transportation infrastructure.
The Railways’ goal is to provide safe, efficient and affordable transportation to all sections of society. The new high-speed locomotives will play a crucial role in achieving this goal by improving speed and reliability of the freight transportation system.
