Hyderabad Water Wastage Fine Hits Jubilee Hills Hotel

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has fined Anaganaga hotel in Jubilee Hills Rs.20,000 for allegedly wasting water while cleaning its premises, in an enforcement action ordered by board Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy.

According to the Deccan Chronicle report, Ashok Reddy noticed water being used to clean the hotel premises while travelling through Jubilee Hills. He objected to the use of water for the activity and directed officials to issue a notice to the establishment and impose a penalty.

HMWS&SB officials subsequently collected the Rs.20,000 fine from the hotel. The action took place at Anaganaga on Road Number 45 in Jubilee Hills.

The board said water resources should not be used indiscriminately for cleaning premises and roads. Ashok Reddy described the protection of water resources as a shared responsibility and advised residents and establishments to avoid excessive water use.

The warning applies to the misuse and wastage of water, including drinking water, according to the statement reported by Deccan Chronicle. The managing director said action would be taken under the applicable rules if such misuse was detected.

The case places routine cleaning practices within the scope of municipal water-conservation enforcement. It also signals that the water board may act when officials observe drinking water or other water resources being used excessively for non-essential cleaning activity.

The report did not provide details of the volume of water used, the specific rule under which the fine was assessed or any response from the hotel management. HMWS&SB’s next steps, as stated by its managing director, are to take action under the rules in cases where water resources are found to be misused or wasted.
