The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has fined Anaganaga hotel Rs.20,000 for wasting water while cleaning its premises on Road Number 45 in Jubilee Hills, following an inspection by board Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy on October 8.
According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, Ashok Reddy noticed water being used excessively for cleaning the hotel premises while travelling through Jubilee Hills. He directed HMWS&SB officials to issue a notice to the hotel management and impose a penalty.
Officials subsequently collected the Rs.20,000 fine from the hotel, the report said. The action is among the board’s latest warnings against the indiscriminate use of water, including drinking water, for cleaning premises and roads.
Ashok Reddy said water resources were valuable natural assets and that their protection was a collective responsibility. He advised residents and establishments to avoid excessive water use, particularly for activities such as washing premises and roads.
The HMWS&SB managing director also warned that action would be taken under the rules if water resources were found to be misused or wasted. The board’s intervention places responsibility on both households and commercial establishments to limit avoidable consumption.
The report did not specify the rule under which the fine was imposed or whether the board has announced additional inspections in Jubilee Hills. The immediate enforcement action, however, signals that the water utility is using penalties alongside public warnings to address wastage in the city.
