Bisalpur Water Supply Reaches Jaipur Suburbs, 4.62 Lakh to Benefit

The Rajasthan Public Health Engineering Department has opened applications for new Bisalpur water connections in Sanganer, Bagru, Jhotwara and Vidyadhar Nagar, expanding the drinking water network across Jaipur’s rapidly growing western suburbs. The phased rollout is scheduled for completion by December 2026 and is expected to serve a projected population of 4.62 lakh residents.

The expansion is being carried out under the Jaipur-Bisalpur 2.0 package for Prithviraj Nagar and adjoining areas. The PHED said all colonies under its Prithviraj Nagar division, along with a majority of localities across the four assembly constituencies, will be connected to the Bisalpur water supply grid through the programme.

The Rs 747.08-crore Prithviraj Nagar water supply scheme was approved on July 4, 2023. It includes the construction of 46 elevated service reservoirs and a large distribution network intended to bring treated water to residential areas that have historically depended on tubewells, water tankers and private water sources.

According to PHED officials, 30 of the 46 elevated service reservoirs were completed during the first phase. In the second phase, 15 of the remaining 16 reservoirs have also been completed. The department has laid 2,342 km of pipeline network under the second phase at a cost of Rs 407.60 crore.

The final reservoir, located at Pawanpuri West, is currently under construction and is scheduled to be completed by the end of October. Once applications are processed and consumer connections are approved, the PHED will begin supplying water to households in the covered colonies, an official said.

The application process marks the transition from large-scale network construction to household-level connections. Residents in the identified colonies will need to apply for connections, after which the department will process approvals before beginning supply to individual properties.

The scheme is directed at parts of Jaipur that have expanded rapidly through residential development, including areas where municipal water infrastructure has not kept pace with settlement growth. The move is expected to reduce reliance on water tankers and improve supply pressure in localities that have previously depended on groundwater extraction or privately arranged supplies.

The PHED’s figures indicate that the project combines major storage infrastructure with an extensive distribution network. The 46 reservoirs are intended to support the movement and distribution of water across the covered suburbs, while the 2,342 km of pipelines will connect the network to residential pockets across the project area.

Officials said the rollout will be completed in phases, with the remaining reservoir and consumer connections forming the immediate next steps. Household supply in the covered colonies will begin after applications are processed and approvals are issued.
