Delhi Metro Adds Trains on Pink and Magenta Lines as Ridership Surges

Delhi Metro has increased train deployment on its Pink and Magenta lines as network length and passenger demand rise, with the Pink Line now operating 43-44 trains daily and the Magenta Line running 25 trains, according to a report by Live Hindustan – NCR.

The Pink Line is operating five to six more trains each day than it did earlier. The increase follows the start of services on the 12.3-kilometre Majlis Park-Maujpur corridor on 8 March under Phase IV. The new section forms part of the Pink Line and has expanded the corridor’s network to 73.49 kilometres.

Before the Majlis Park-Maujpur section opened, the Pink Line operated between Shiv Vihar and Majlis Park, with an average of 37 to 39 trains running daily. Around 40 trains were deployed each day in March after the new section began operations. Since April, the corridor has consistently operated 43 to 44 trains daily.

The Pink Line now carries more than 650,000 passenger journeys each day, according to the report, making it the Delhi Metro’s third-busiest corridor. The increase in train deployment is linked both to the longer route and to rising passenger numbers following the opening of the new section.

The corridor operates six-coach, driverless, automated trains. Despite the additional services, trains are available at intervals of around six minutes during peak hours. The report states that this continues to result in crowding at stations and inconvenience for passengers, indicating that higher train deployment has not eliminated pressure during the busiest periods.

The Magenta Line has also received an increase in operational capacity. Since March, the number of trains on the line has risen from 24 to 25. On the Magenta Line extension identified in the report as the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park section, the number of trains has increased from three in March to seven daily.

The changes come as Delhi Metro expands its network and adds new sections while managing higher demand on existing corridors. For passengers, the increase in train deployment is intended to support movement on both lines, although the reported peak-hour intervals and station crowding remain part of the current operating conditions.
