Mumbai civic issues spanning potholes, traffic congestion, garbage accumulation and bus connectivity have prompted residents to seek action from civic and transport authorities across the city.
Residents reported perennial traffic congestion and a narrow, obstructed approach near the Kandarpada RTO office, along with low bus frequency and long waiting times. The complaints said the limited road space was creating difficulties for people travelling to and from the office and surrounding areas.
Another resident asked the BEST undertaking to restore bus route 413 between Santacruz East station and Kunchi Kurve Nagar in Kalina. The service was temporarily discontinued during cement roadwork on the Kunchi Kurve Nagar lane. The complaint said that even after the road became motorable, commuters travelling to the Bandra-Kurla Complex and Mumbai University were being forced to walk longer distances or rely on autorickshaws.
Residents also sought repairs on Suhasini Pawaskar Road between Vaishali Nagar and Konkani Pada in Dahisar East, citing persistent potholes and requesting that the road be fully concreted. Another complaint drew attention to garbage and debris along unused railway tracks between Bandra East and Bandra West, as well as low bus frequency on the eastern side of the station.
The complaints also referred to dilapidated structures near roads and nullahs, which residents said left little space for parking. In response to a complaint about a road cave-in, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said citizens could report problems through its MARG management and grievance-redressal portal, with accurate details and geotagged photographs. The civic body said complaints highlighting genuine problems and concerns were addressed on priority.
The BMC also said it had begun implementing new Solid Waste Management Byelaws from April 1. The rules provide for penalties for activities including littering, spitting, open defecation, nuisance caused by feeding animals or birds, washing vehicles or utensils in public spaces, and failure to keep premises clean.
On the request to restore bus route 413, the transport authorities said the possibility would be examined based on feasibility. The assessment would consider route patronage, fleet availability and other operational factors. A local representative separately said inspection rounds were being conducted in the area and that reported issues were being repaired or addressed. The authorities did not provide a confirmed date for restoring the bus service.
