Delhi Traffic Police has issued a Sunday traffic advisory covering VIP movements linked to the BRICS Summit 2026 and the India-Afghanistan T20 match at Arun Jaitley Stadium, with restrictions and diversions expected across central Delhi on 13 September.
The BRICS-related restrictions will apply during the movement of visiting dignitaries through controlled security zones from 8 am to 8 pm. Separately, traffic restrictions around Arun Jaitley Stadium are scheduled from 2 pm to 11.45 pm because of the cricket match, which is due to begin at 7 pm and continue until about 11.30 pm.
According to the advisory reported by Live Hindustan – NCR, restrictions may be imposed on specified stretches of Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, DDU Marg, Mir Dard Chowk and JLN Marg. The movement of goods vehicles will also be restricted on designated portions of these roads. Commuters who are not travelling to the stadium have been advised to avoid JLN Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Asaf Ali Road and DDU Marg and use alternative routes.
The traffic arrangements will affect both stadium visitors and ordinary commuters using roads around Delhi Gate, ITO, Daryaganj and the central administrative area. The police have asked residents to plan journeys in advance, follow diversions and leave home with additional travel time. They have also recommended using the Metro wherever possible on the match day.
Spectators will be able to reach the stadium through designated access points. Gates 1 to 8 will be accessible from Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. Gates 10 to 15 can be approached from JLN Marg near the Ambedkar Stadium bus terminal, while Gates 16 to 18 will be accessible from Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg near the petrol pump.
Parking and park-and-ride facilities will be available at Mata Sundari Road, Rajghat Power House Road and Velodrome Road. General parking will not be permitted in the immediate area around the stadium. Vehicles violating the restrictions may be removed and face action under traffic regulations.
App-based taxis will have designated pick-up and drop-off points at Gate 2 and Rajghat Chowk. The arrangement is intended to keep vehicles away from the most congested access roads and manage the movement of spectators arriving and leaving during the evening match.
The overlapping schedules of a major international summit and a high-attendance sporting event are expected to place additional pressure on central Delhi’s road network. The traffic police have asked commuters to avoid the affected corridors unless necessary and comply with instructions from personnel deployed along the routes. The restrictions are scheduled to remain in force until Sunday night, with the stadium-related measures continuing until 11.45 pm.
