The Dahisar-Bhayandar Link Road is now being planned for completion by December 2028, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation reviewing construction progress, land acquisition and safety measures at the Bhayandar Interchange in the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation area.
Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar inspected the site and directed civic officials and contractors to follow the project timeline, expedite the acquisition of land required for the remaining works and coordinate with the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation.
The Dahisar-Bhayandar Link Road is part of the Mumbai Coastal Road (North), a larger BMC project intended to improve connectivity between Mumbai and the Mira-Bhayandar region. The wider project, including interchanges and link roads, spans about 60 km and is planned to connect Vesave with Bhayandar through the coastal road network.
The link road itself is approximately 5.135 km long and is designed to provide a direct road connection between Dahisar West and Bhayandar West. Its components include an elevated road, a road on stilts through mangrove areas, an elevated structure over the creek, an elevated road through saltpan areas, connecting roads, interchanges and flyovers.
The main elevated road section is around 3.83 km long and 45 metres wide. It is expected to form the final section of the Mumbai Coastal Road (North) project. The larger project has been divided into seven packages identified as A, B, C, D, E, F and the Dahisar-Bhayandar Link Road package.
According to the civic body, 60 piles, five pile caps, four piers, pier caps and nine segments of the bridge structure have been completed. Gabion wall and fencing work is under way, while foundation work for the elevated structure continues through the construction of piles and pile caps.
Modern construction equipment has been deployed at the site, and a temporary access bridge is operational to support the ongoing works. Preparations are also under way for the launch of a launching girder, with the activity scheduled to begin in the second week of October.
During the inspection, Bangar directed officials to establish a priority sequence for the remaining land acquisition work and maintain coordination with the authorities in Mira-Bhayandar. He also instructed officials and contractors to maintain barricading, follow prescribed safety standard operating procedures and ensure that construction meets quality requirements.
“The project should be planned and implemented with the target of completing the DBLR by December 2028,” Bangar said, according to the civic body.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Infrastructure) Girish Nikam, Deputy Chief Engineer for Mumbai Coastal Road (North) Vaibhav Gandhi, engineers and project consultants were present during the inspection. The next major construction milestone is the planned commencement of launching-girder work in October, while land acquisition and coordination between the two civic bodies remain part of the implementation process.
