The Nagpur–Mancherial–Warangal–Khammam–Vijayawada Greenfield Highway is expected to be completed and opened to the public by December 31, 2027, Telangana Roads & Buildings and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy told the Legislative Council.
The 310-km highway will connect districts in Telangana with Nagpur and Vijayawada. Around 280 km of the route falls within Telangana, according to the minister. The state government will also direct the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to provide an exit near Parkal to improve public access to the highway.
Komatireddy was responding to questions raised by MLCs Pochampally Srinivas Reddy and Prof. Kodandaram. He said the Mancherial–Warangal section had been divided into packages, with the Letter of Acceptance issued on March 31, 2023, and the agreement signed on May 23, 2023.
The project was initially scheduled for completion in 730 days. However, land acquisition problems, court cases and other obstacles delayed construction. The minister said that most land acquisition issues had now been resolved, although land handover remained pending at one or two locations. These include stretches of approximately 1–1.3 km and 5.7 km.
The highway’s implementation involves responsibilities shared between the state government and NHAI. Land acquisition is being handled by the state, which is acting as the nodal agency and has assured cooperation for the project. Construction is being undertaken under NHAI supervision.
Komatireddy said farmers would not be disadvantaged by the land acquisition process and that compensation would be paid at market rates. The assurance comes as the remaining land handover issues continue to affect sections of the project route.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari reviewed the project on May 26 and emphasised its importance to Telangana, particularly its connectivity with Nagpur, Komatireddy said. The state government has now extended the completion deadline to December 31, 2027.
The proposed Parkal exit will be significant for local access because the highway is being developed as a greenfield corridor. The minister’s assurance means that the project’s next milestones will include completing the remaining land handovers, resolving pending legal or administrative obstacles and progressing construction under NHAI supervision.
