Maharashtra has allocated Rs 170 crore for 104 jetty and related coastal infrastructure works across Mumbai and the Konkan region, including approach roads, protective walls, erosion-control barriers, dredging and passenger facilities, according to a report by Loksatta published on September 11, 2026.
The works will be undertaken across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. Of the total allocation, Rs 126 crore has been set aside for 75 works involving jetties and associated passenger infrastructure, while Rs 44 crore will fund 29 works connected with roads, railway links and backwater development leading to ports.
The funding is part of the state programme titled “Assistance grant to the Maharashtra Maritime Board, and provision of floating jetties and related passenger facilities”. Under the programme, the government has approved a total of Rs 577.53 crore for 75 works. By the end of March 2026, Rs 133.92 crore had been released for these projects, while a further provision of Rs 126 crore has been made for the 2026-27 financial year.
In the Mumbai region, the projects include a protective wall at Colaba-Gitanganagar, works at Khar-Danda and the Belapur passenger jetty, as well as jetty and approach-road projects in Dombivli, Uttan and parts of Thane. The report states that work at Colaba has been completed in full, while 40 per cent of the work at Belapur remains pending.
Palghar district projects covered by the funding include jetty and passenger-facility works at Vasai Fort, Naigaon, the Vasai roll-on/roll-off jetty, Narangi and the Arnala Fort area. The height-raising work at Naigaon Benkar jetty has been completed, according to the report.
The allocation also includes works intended to improve access to jetties and ports through roads and, where applicable, railway connections. The projects cover both passenger facilities and coastal assets such as protective structures and dredging works, indicating that the programme is being implemented across multiple stages of the coastal transport network.
The state’s provision for the 2026-27 financial year is expected to support the next phase of the identified works. The Maharashtra Maritime Board will be involved in implementing the jetty and passenger-facility components across the six districts named in the report.
