Municipal officials in Vijayawada conducted surprise inspections at hotels and restaurants on September 9, 2026, finding hygiene and food-safety violations at several establishments across KT Road, BRP Road and Governorpet. Three hotels were fined ₹2,000 each, while two others were issued notices to correct deficiencies.
The inspections were carried out by teams from the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation’s public health department following orders from commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra. Officials checked kitchens, drinking-water facilities, toilets and the general sanitary conditions of the establishments.
According to the report, teams inspecting Minerva, Vegitreat and Madina hotels found kitchens without tiled flooring, mould on walls and unhygienic surroundings. Officials also noted concerns involving drinking-water quality, toilet maintenance and food being prepared in unsanitary conditions.
Hotel Srinivasa, Chintala Vari Bhojanam and Aithe Biryani were each fined ₹2,000 for violations, bringing the total amount collected in penalties to ₹6,000. Jathar Mandi Hotel was found to be compliant with hygiene norms during the inspection drive.
Notices were issued to two other hotels, directing their managements to rectify the deficiencies within the stipulated period. Municipal officials warned that establishments failing to comply could face legal action, including cancellation of their trade licences where necessary.
The civic body said hotel and restaurant operators must follow sanitation rules to protect the public and ensure that food is prepared and served in hygienic conditions. The inspections covered establishments in busy commercial areas of Vijayawada, including KT Road, BRP Road and Governorpet.
Sanitary supervisors D. Somaraju and Saleem Ahmed, sanitary inspector Kota Gopayya, ward secretary Rahul and other public health department staff participated in the inspections. The notices and penalties form part of the municipal corporation’s enforcement response following the commissioner’s directions.
