The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has begun a fresh survey of rooftop hotels across the city following complaints that some establishments are operating without permission and failing to comply with safety requirements, including fire-safety provisions.
The civic body’s encroachment removal department is carrying out the survey and has said that action will be taken against hotels found to be unauthorised or in violation of applicable rules. The administration’s warning comes after an increase in complaints about rooftop establishments operating on building terraces without the required permissions.
The survey follows an earlier exercise conducted by the department in 2023. That survey identified 49 rooftop hotels in different parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad. Several were found to be operating illegally, after which the municipal corporation issued notices to operators and granted time to obtain the necessary permissions. The civic body also took action against nine unauthorised hotels.
According to the report, the number of rooftop hotels has increased again over the past two and a half years. Areas where such establishments are present in significant numbers include Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav, Chinchwad, Nigdi, Pradhikaran, Spine Road and Bhosari.
Municipal officials have received complaints that some rooftop hotels are being run without permission and that safety rules are not being followed. One concern raised in the complaints is the lack of adequate firefighting equipment at certain establishments. The latest survey is intended to identify hotels that are operating without authorisation or failing to meet the required conditions.
The civic administration has not yet disclosed the number of establishments covered by the current survey or specified when the exercise will be completed. It has stated that enforcement action will follow against hotels found to be operating illegally or violating safety regulations.
