Bengaluru Food Safety Raids Seize Expired Goods Worth Over ₹3 Crore

BENGALURU | September 9, 2026 — Karnataka’s Food Safety and Drug Administration departments have seized food products and medicines worth more than ₹3 crore from e-commerce warehouses and dark stores in Bengaluru and surrounding areas, according to Health Minister U.T. Khader. The seized goods included expired food, products with inadequate or incorrect labels and medicines allegedly stored without the required licence.

The action was carried out over the past month, with authorities closing or sealing several facilities during the inspections. The minister said the investigation began after officials examined the background of a peptide party in Koramangala that had been cancelled following intervention by the food safety department. The subsequent inquiry reportedly led investigators to online storage and fulfilment facilities.

At an Instamart warehouse in Hoskote, officials seized goods valued at ₹1.43 crore, including expired food products, food with incorrect labelling and medicines stored without a licence. The seized material included ₹33 lakh worth of incorrectly labelled products, food valued at ₹1.5 crore that was either past its expiry date or nearing expiry, and medicines valued at ₹4.2 lakh, according to the minister’s account. The facility was shut and further investigation was ordered.

At an Amazon centre near the Defence Park area in Devanahalli, officials seized food products worth ₹20 lakh for allegedly failing to meet prescribed labelling standards under food safety and quality regulations. The seizure included ₹14 lakh worth of inadequately labelled products and ₹6 lakh worth of expired food. Medicines valued at more than ₹2.45 lakh were also seized for alleged storage without a licence.

Another Amazon centre in Tattihalli, Anekal, and near Madiwala was found to hold products linked to alleged labelling violations and expired food. Authorities seized goods worth ₹32 lakh, including ₹19 lakh worth of products with inadequate labelling, along with medicines valued at ₹1.57 lakh that were allegedly stored without the necessary licence.

Officials also raided the Leo 7 Enterprises facility in Bandhlimgarajapuram, where they found expired chocolates, sweets, ghee and dry fruits valued at ₹56 lakh. The unit was closed, according to the minister’s statement. At Sapna Bazaar in HBR Layout, officials seized expired food products valued at ₹10,000.

The authorities are continuing to investigate the source and quality of the seized goods. The reported inspections cover both food products and medicines held within e-commerce and dark-store networks, with further action expected as the department examines the alleged violations and the operations of the affected facilities.
