Thane police have imposed restrictions around nine examination centres in the Wagle Estate area ahead of the UPSC National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination II and Combined Defence Services Examination II on September 13, according to a report by Loksatta – Thane.
The restrictions will remain in force from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the examination day. They include a ban on gatherings and the closure of xerox centres, fax centres, telephone booths and stationery shops within 100 metres of the examination centres.
The measures have been introduced to prevent malpractice, stop unauthorised assistance to candidates and ensure that the examination process is not disrupted. The examinations are being conducted under the Union Public Service Commission.
Access to the area immediately adjoining the centres will also be restricted. Candidates, supervisors, officials and employees connected with the examination process, and police personnel, will be permitted to enter. Other people will not be allowed to enter the restricted area without authorisation.
The restrictions will affect local businesses operating near the nine centres during the specified hours. Candidates and accompanying family members have also been advised, through the public notification process, to account for the access restrictions and the closure of services commonly used before examinations.
According to the report, violations of the order will invite legal action. Police have directed that information about the restrictions be displayed at the examination centres, secondary schools, colleges and other public places so residents can be informed before September 13.
The order covers the centres located within the Wagle Estate police jurisdiction. The restrictions are scheduled to remain in place only for the stated examination period, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on September 13.
