The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation has begun reviewing measures to improve cleaning, safety and visitor facilities at Rajodi Beach in Nalasopara West, with Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. inspecting the site on September 5 and directing officials to strengthen daily operations.
During the inspection, the commissioner reviewed the functioning of the beach-cleaning machine and instructed civic teams to ensure regular waste collection, install dustbins and dispose of collected waste properly. The visit followed the approval of a proposal on beach cleanliness and safety at a recent general body meeting of the municipal corporation.
The corporation had earlier purchased a beach-cleaning machine using funds from the 15th Finance Commission. The equipment was acquired at a cost of ₹67 lakh, but reports that it frequently remained non-operational had raised concerns about the effectiveness of beach-cleaning arrangements.
Officials also discussed measures aimed at improving visitor safety and basic amenities. These included constructing watchtowers, establishing emergency-response arrangements and providing public toilets. Parking facilities and beautification works were also raised during the inspection in response to the growing number of vehicles visiting the area.
Rajodi is among several beaches in the Vasai-Virar region, which also includes Arnala, Suruchi, Bhuigaon, Rangao, Navapur and Kalamb. The civic administration said these beaches attract visitors but that several locations continue to face problems related to waste and maintenance.
During the visit, Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. spoke with local residents and tourists about their difficulties and requirements. Additional Commissioner Sanjay Herwade, Assistant Commissioner Jitendra Naik, the chief health inspector and sanitation workers were present. The administration also appealed to residents and visitors to help keep the coastline free of plastic and support environmental protection measures.
