Indian Railways has extended the operation of two special train services connecting Ahmedabad and Gandhidham with eastern India, aiming to accommodate higher passenger demand during the upcoming travel and festive season while maintaining connectivity amid ongoing railway infrastructure works.
The extension covers the Ahmedabad Darbhanga special train and the Gandhidham–Bhagalpur special service, allowing both routes to continue operating through July and early August. Railway authorities have also announced temporary route modifications for certain services due to construction activities at Lucknow, ensuring uninterrupted operations while major station infrastructure is upgraded. The decision reflects the growing demand for long-distance rail travel between western and eastern India, particularly among migrant workers, business travellers, students and families who rely on seasonal special services during peak travel periods.
Officials stated that revised routes will bypass affected sections while continuing to connect key cities across Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The operational changes are intended to minimise disruption without significantly affecting overall network connectivity.
