Rapid urban expansion around Chennai, combined with rising commuter demand and increasing logistics movements, had intensified pressure on an ageing junction layout originally designed for lower volumes. The newly completed works introduce a more structured operating arrangement by separating suburban movements from mainline and inter-state services.
