Mobile connectivity along one of western India’s key railway corridors has come under fresh regulatory scrutiny following an independent assessment of telecom services on the Jodhpur–Ahmedabad route. The evaluation provides a snapshot of network reliability for passengers while highlighting areas where service providers may need to strengthen coverage and data performance as rail travel and digital dependence continue to grow.
The independent assessment examined mobile network quality across nearly 457 kilometres of railway infrastructure linking Rajasthan and Gujarat. Conducted under the supervision of the telecom regulator, the exercise evaluated voice and data services across multiple technologies, including 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G, under real operating conditions experienced by passengers during rail journeys. The Ahmedabad rail mobile connectivity assessment measured critical quality indicators such as signal availability, call setup success, dropped calls, download and upload speeds, latency and overall network stability. The results showed noticeable differences in service quality among telecom operators, particularly in areas of signal coverage and mobile internet performance across different sections of the railway corridor. According to the findings, some operators recorded significantly fewer coverage gaps and stronger data speeds than others, while variations were also observed in call reliability and voice quality. Such assessments provide valuable performance benchmarks for both consumers and telecom companies, encouraging network improvements in areas where service consistency remains below expectations.
