A fresh phase of North Bengal thunderstorms is expected to develop early next week, prompting meteorological authorities to place several hill and adjoining districts on alert. The forecast signals a shift from the current dry spell across West Bengal and highlights the growing importance of early weather advisories for climate-sensitive regions and urban settlements in the Himalayan foothills. Weather officials have indicated that districts in the northern hills including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Kalimpong are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning beginning Monday. The advisory categorised the situation under a yellow alert, which typically signals the possibility of localised weather disruptions and calls for heightened preparedness among residents and local administrations.
The warning follows a period of relatively stable weather conditions across the state. Over the next three days, most districts are expected to witness largely dry conditions with partly cloudy skies. In Kolkata, daytime temperatures are projected to hover around the low-to-mid 30 degrees Celsius range, with a marginal increase expected over the weekend. Night-time temperatures are likely to remain comfortable in the early 20s. However, the developing weather system could bring scattered rainfall to parts of northern plains districts such as Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and North Dinajpur. Meteorologists suggest that the approaching convective activity may extend to several southern districts as well, bringing intermittent pre-summer showers and thunderstorms through the middle of the week.
