Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath presented the state’s post-2017 changes in infrastructure, employment, technology and investment as the foundation for a new growth story, saying the state’s youth were moving from seeking jobs to creating them.
Speaking at the Youth Icons Summit & Awards, UP Chapter, organised by The Times of India, Adityanath used an eight-frame presentation to describe what he called the state’s transformation over the past nine and a half years. His remarks covered law and order, government recruitment, sports, startups, artificial intelligence, transport infrastructure, tourism and the state’s economic position.
The chief minister said the government’s policy of zero tolerance towards crime had improved the state’s investment climate and women’s mobility. He claimed that women were now able to work later without the same security concerns and that this had contributed to a higher presence of women in the workforce. The supplied report does not provide independent data supporting these claims.
On employment, Adityanath said the government had issued 9.5 lakh jobs without recommendations during the past nine and a half years, with another one lakh appointments expected within six months. He also said 1,400 sportspersons had received appointment letters for government posts under a policy that offers direct recruitment to medal-winning athletes.
The chief minister linked the state’s startup growth to a proposed shift from a job-seeking economy to one led by young entrepreneurs. According to his account, Uttar Pradesh had about 120 startups before 2017 and now had 25,000. He said the government had created a Rs 1,000-crore fund for startups and was developing centres of excellence, including one focused on drone technology in Kanpur and another on robotics in Noida.
Adityanath also highlighted the CM Yuva Udyami Guarantee Scheme, which he said would help one lakh young people each year obtain guarantee-free and interest-free loans. The reported remarks do not include details of the scheme’s eligibility rules, disbursement record or repayment framework.
Technology and industrial employment formed another part of the presentation. The chief minister said Lucknow was being developed as an artificial intelligence city and that Global Capability Centres were being established across Uttar Pradesh. He also recalled the setting up of a hypersonic missile facility after discussions with the Defence Research and Development Organisation, saying the project was required to hire local talent.
On basic infrastructure, Adityanath said electricity had been provided to every village, after claiming that one lakh small villages lacked power when the government took office. He also said Uttar Pradesh now accounted for 60% of the country’s expressway network, compared with 15 expressways earlier. The report does not specify the definition or total length used for this comparison.
The chief minister said the state had grown from two international airports in Lucknow and Varanasi to five international and 17 domestic airports. He cited Gorakhpur, where he said 14 flights were operating daily and running full, and described the state as having gained its first inland waterway, monorail and freight corridor under the BJP government.
Adityanath further claimed that Uttar Pradesh had moved from the bottom three state economies to the top three, while its economy, per capita income, budget and women’s workforce had each increased threefold since 2017. He also said more than 156 crore tourists visited the state last year, with visitors to Kashi, Ayodhya, Vrindavan and Mathura contributing to restaurants, cycle-rickshaw operators and small shops.
Addressing the youth, the chief minister connected the state’s current development trajectory with the 2047 goal of a developed India. He said the present generation would be about 40 years old by then and would be expected to lead the country. The next milestones for the programmes and infrastructure claims cited in the speech were not detailed in the supplied report.
