Yerawada Metro to Open Late Due to Final Adjustments

Pune’s Yerawada Metro station will miss its anticipated July opening date, according to recent updates from the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro). The station, a crucial part of the Vanaz-Ramwadi elevated Metro route inaugurated in March 2024, is now expected to become operational within the next eight to ten days.

The delay follows a final inspection conducted by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), who identified a few minor modifications required before the station can be officially opened to the public. Maha Metro officials have assured that these adjustments are currently being implemented, and the station is on track to start operations shortly. Local commuters, particularly those working along Airport Road and Nagar Road in the vicinity of Yerawada, have been pressing for the station’s timely opening. The delay has been particularly frustrating for those who rely on the Metro for their daily commute. The station’s activation will alleviate traffic congestion and provide a much-needed transportation link in the area. The station’s operational commencement has been hampered by objections from local residents regarding the proposed entry and exit points. Concerns were raised that these access points could disrupt traffic flow.

In response, Maha Metro redesigned the access points to address these issues, and subsequent inspections have been conducted to ensure compliance with safety and efficiency standards. According to an anonymous Maha Metro official, “All major redesign work on the entry and exit points has been completed. The CMRS has inspected the station twice, and only final-stage works remain. We are confident that the station will be ready for use within the next ten days.” Upon completion of the pending work, Maha Metro will announce the schedule for trains serving the Yerawada station. Additionally, plans are in place to introduce feeder bus services connecting the station to key routes, including the airport, to further enhance commuter convenience.

The revised opening timeline for Yerawada Metro station is expected to alleviate local traffic issues and provide a significant boost to public transportation in Pune. The ongoing adjustments are set to ensure that the station meets all operational and safety requirements, paving the way for its eventual launch.
