VinFast has begun inviting applications for exclusive electric two-wheeler dealerships across India, marking its first major public step towards entering the country’s electric scooter market as it prepares for local assembly in Tamil Nadu.
The Vietnamese automaker announced the dealership opportunity in a social media post seeking partners to build its electric motorcycle presence across the country. Applications from prospective dealers will be accepted until September 15, according to the company’s announcement.
“Something massive is building at VinFast E-Motorcycle India, and we are about to open the doors to a historic journey,” the company said. It added that it was seeking partners to help develop an ecosystem around smart and sustainable electric mobility.
VinFast said its dealership blueprint was ready and that a major announcement would follow, but it did not disclose the models or variants that it plans to launch in India. The company also did not provide details on pricing, showroom locations or the expected start date for retail sales.
The dealer search comes as VinFast prepares to assemble electric two-wheelers through the Completely Knocked Down, or CKD, route. Components are expected to be imported from the company’s overseas facilities, with electric two-wheelers assembled at its existing automobile manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
The company’s entry would add another international manufacturer to India’s growing electric two-wheeler market. S Sathyanarayanan, a two-wheeler dealer in Villupuram who plans to apply for a VinFast dealership, said electric two-wheelers still accounted for only about 9 per cent of the overall two-wheeler market, leaving room for further expansion.
Bharat Kumar Chordia, treasurer of the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations, said VinFast’s experience in Vietnam’s electric bike segment could support its entry into India. He also pointed to the country’s regional diversity, including differences in festivals and auspicious buying periods, as a reason for manufacturers to build a broad dealership network.
VinFast’s two-wheeler plans follow recent uncertainty over aspects of its wider Indian production programme. A Reuters report had said the company was suspending production plans for some car variants in India. VinFast subsequently said that it had not changed or suspended production plans for the models currently being sold in the country and would continue CKD assembly at its Thoothukudi plant.
In December 2025, VinFast and the Tamil Nadu government signed a memorandum of understanding covering approximately 200 hectares at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi. The company said the land would support the development of its existing facility.
As part of the second phase of its reported $2 billion commitment to Tamil Nadu, VinFast said it would invest $500 million in Thoothukudi to develop dedicated workshops and production lines for electric buses and electric scooters. The planned facilities are intended to cover manufacturing, assembly, testing and related operations.
The company’s immediate next step is to receive applications from prospective exclusive electric two-wheeler dealers by September 15. VinFast has not yet announced the models, prices or retail launch schedule for the Indian market.
