VinFast electric two-wheelers are moving closer to an India launch after the Vietnamese automaker began seeking applications for exclusive dealerships across the country. The company is also preparing for local assembly of electric scooters at its manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, according to industry sources cited by The Hindu BusinessLine.
In a recent social media post, VinFast invited applications for exclusive VinFast E-Motorcycle dealership opportunities nationwide. The company said it was building an ecosystem around “smart and sustainable electric mobility” and was looking for partners to expand its presence across India.
“Something massive is building at VinFast E-Motorcycle India, and we are about to open the doors to a historic journey,” the company said in the advertisement. It added that “the blueprint is ready” and that a major announcement was forthcoming. Applications from prospective dealers were to remain open until September 15.
The dealership initiative comes as VinFast prepares to enter India’s electric two-wheeler market, where registrations attributed to the company rose 43.5 per cent month on month to 2,196 units in August from 1,530 in July. VinFast has not disclosed the electric two-wheeler variants it plans to introduce.
The company is understood to be considering production through the Completely Knocked Down route. Under this arrangement, components would be imported from overseas facilities and the electric two-wheelers assembled at VinFast’s car manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi.
S Sathyanarayanan, a two-wheeler dealer in Villupuram who said he planned to apply for a VinFast dealership, described India’s electric two-wheeler industry as being at an early stage, with room for further growth. He said electric two-wheelers accounted for about 9 per cent of the overall two-wheeler market, compared with vehicles powered by internal-combustion engines.
Bharat Kumar Chordia, treasurer of the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations, said VinFast’s experience in Vietnam’s electric bicycle and two-wheeler segment could support its India entry. He also said a nationwide dealership network would help the company reach buyers across states with different regional festivals and purchasing cycles.
The electric two-wheeler plans follow uncertainty around some of VinFast’s wider production plans in India after a Reuters report said the company was suspending production plans for certain car variants. VinFast subsequently said that it had not changed or suspended production plans for models currently being sold in India and would continue CKD assembly at its Thoothukudi plant.
In December 2025, VinFast and the Tamil Nadu government signed a memorandum of understanding covering approximately 200 hectares at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi. The company said the land would support the development of its existing facility. As part of the second phase of its stated $2 billion commitment, VinFast plans to invest $500 million in Thoothukudi in dedicated workshops and production lines for electric buses and e-scooters, including manufacturing, assembly and testing operations.
