Vande Bharat Trains Hit 20 Million Passengers Milestone

Vande Bharat trains, India’s first semi-high-speed rail service, have surpassed the milestone of 20 million passengers since their inception on February 15, 2019.

This achievement underscores the significant strides made by the Indian Railways in modernising its network and enhancing passenger experience. Commemorating the 171st anniversary of the Indian Railways, officials highlighted the transformative journey of the Vande Bharat trains, which symbolise the railways’ evolution into a modern and efficient mode of transportation. What began with just two trains on a single route has now expanded to 102 trains serving 100 routes across 284 districts in 24 states and Union Territories. The Vande Bharat trains, equipped with state-of-the-art amenities and based on distributed-power technology for enhanced performance, have emerged as a preferred choice for travellers, particularly the younger generation. Offering facilities comparable to airplanes, such as speed, comfortable seating, sound-proof coaches, Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS-based passenger information systems, and pantry services in each coach, these trains have redefined the travel experience.

Looking ahead, the Indian Railways is poised to further elevate the Vande Bharat initiative by introducing a sleeper version of the trains. This expansion aims to cater to the needs of long-distance passengers, offering them a new level of comfort and convenience. With plans underway for the launch of the sleeper version and recent inauguration of its body structure, the railways are committed to enhancing the travel experience and meeting the evolving demands of passengers. The success of the Vande Bharat trains reflects not only the railways’ commitment to innovation and excellence but also the changing dynamics of modern rail travel in India. As the journey continues, these trains are set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of rail transportation in the country, offering passengers a seamless and enjoyable travel experience.
