The Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation has moved to widen Hyderabad’s congested Uppal Stadium Road to 120 ft after a joint inspection identified about 0.78 acres of Survey of India land needed for the project. The proposal is intended to improve traffic flow and reduce delays on the road leading to Uppal Stadium.
MMC Commissioner and officials from the Survey of India, the corporation’s engineering department and its town planning department inspected the stretch on Monday. During the inspection, the officials identified land occupied by existing compound walls and sheds belonging to Kendriya Vidyalaya as part of the area required for the widening.
The Commissioner directed the concerned departments to examine compensation for the land acquisition under applicable regulations and initiate further action. The process will require coordination between the municipal corporation and the Survey of India, which owns or controls the land identified during the inspection.
Officials were also asked to expedite the removal of obstructions affecting the proposed road work. The Commissioner directed the Chief City Planner to remove temporary barricading sheets at the NSL buildings, which were identified as obstructing the widening work.
The project comes as the civic body seeks to address congestion on the road connecting traffic movement around Uppal Stadium and nearby areas. The existing road width and obstructions along the stretch have been identified as constraints to smoother vehicle movement, according to the municipal officials involved in the inspection.
The proposal illustrates the administrative steps required before a road-widening project can begin. Apart from the physical construction work, the civic body must complete land identification, determine compensation under the applicable regulations and coordinate with institutions whose compound walls or structures may be affected.
MMC officials said completing the widening project would improve traffic management and facilitate smoother vehicular movement in the area. The departments concerned have been directed to coordinate and expedite land acquisition, compensation and the road-widening work, but the report does not specify a construction start date or completion deadline.
