Pune will face a complete water-supply shutdown for one day every week from Thursday, October 15, 2026, after the Maharashtra government ordered a 10% reduction in water supply amid drought conditions in the state. The Pune Municipal Corporation has said the measure is intended to conserve available water and plan supplies more carefully.
PMC Additional Commissioner Pavneet Kaur officially announced the decision, according to Civic Mirror. The weekly shutdown will affect residents across the city, who will need to plan household water use around the revised supply arrangement.
The decision follows directions from the state government to reduce water supply by 10%. The municipal administration said it was acting in accordance with instructions from the Irrigation Department and would regulate distribution to ensure that the available water stock is managed prudently.
Under the arrangement, residents will experience a full-day interruption in water supply once every week. The municipal corporation has not yet released the area-wise schedule, including the specific day on which supply will be stopped in each administrative section of the city.
PMC is expected to publish the detailed departmental and area-wise timetable shortly. Until that schedule is issued, residents do not have an official indication of when their neighbourhoods will be affected. The announcement therefore creates an immediate need for households, housing societies, commercial establishments and public institutions to monitor municipal communications.
The administration has appealed to citizens to store only the water required for essential use before their designated shutdown day and to avoid wastage. The weekly interruption is being presented as a water-conservation measure linked to the state’s drought situation and the need to manage Pune’s available supply under reduced allocations.
For residents, the practical impact will depend on the final timetable and the manner in which supply is restored after each shutdown. PMC’s next stated step is to announce the detailed area-wise schedule, which will establish the weekly closure days for different parts of the city.
