Uno Minda has announced a ₹1,415 crore capex programme to expand and consolidate its manufacturing footprint across Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Karnataka and Maharashtra, with new and expanded facilities scheduled to come online in phases between Q1FY28 and Q4FY29.
The auto-components manufacturer said the investment will increase capacity across aluminium castings, two-wheeler alloy wheels, moulded components and automotive safety and body parts. The projects are intended to meet demand from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), with the company stating that the investments are backed by orders or firm demand visibility.
The largest project is a ₹670 crore plant to be established by Uno Minda’s joint venture with Toyoda Gosei, Japan, at CSN in Maharashtra. The facility will manufacture interior and exterior automotive parts, airbags, hoses and body sealing components. It will be Toyoda Gosei South India Private Limited’s third plant in India, following facilities at Bidadi and Harohalli in Karnataka. Operations are expected to begin by Q4FY29, according to the company.
Uno Minda will invest ₹510 crore in a greenfield aluminium casting facility at Thally Road in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The new plant will be built on another existing land parcel after the company’s current Hosur facility reached its practical expansion limits. The project will serve two-wheeler, four-wheeler and commercial vehicle programmes, including internal-combustion engine and electric-vehicle applications.
The expansion is expected to increase aluminium casting capacity at Hosur from around 13,000 metric tonnes to 34,000 metric tonnes at peak. Implementation will take place in phases over three years, with the first phase expected to commence production by Q4FY28. The company said demand from OEMs, particularly in South India, is supporting the expansion.
The company’s board has also approved a 3.3 million-unit two-wheeler alloy wheel plant at Kharkhoda in Haryana. The project includes the relocation of two million units of existing capacity from Supa in Maharashtra and an additional capex of ₹155 crore. It will be implemented in phases over two years, with the first phase expected to begin production by Q4FY28.
In Bengaluru, Uno Minda Kyoraku, the company’s subsidiary, will expand its moulding facility at an estimated cost of ₹80 crore. The expansion is expected to commence operations by Q1FY28. Together, the projects will distribute additional manufacturing capacity across several established automotive and industrial production clusters rather than concentrating the entire investment at one location.
Ravi Mehra, Managing Director of Uno Minda, said the projects were based on investing against orders or firm demand visibility, remaining close to customers and building manufacturing capabilities that are scalable, efficient and future-ready. The company’s stated implementation milestones now place the Hosur, Kharkhoda and Bengaluru projects ahead of the Maharashtra joint-venture plant in the announced rollout schedule.
