UAE Fuel Prices Rise Above India’s in Key Cities, Data Shows

UAE fuel prices have risen above retail rates in several Indian cities, with diesel showing the clearest difference, according to a comparison based on October 22 prices and exchange rates. The shift comes after the UAE raised fuel rates sharply in October in response to international energy-market conditions.

Petrol prices across 14 Indian cities ranged from Rs 101.54 per litre in Chandigarh to Rs 116.15 in Hyderabad on October 22. Diesel prices ranged from Rs 89.47 per litre in Chandigarh to Rs 104.40 in Thiruvananthapuram.

In the UAE, October prices were Dh 4.21 per litre for E-Plus 91 petrol, Dh 4.28 for Special 95, Dh 4.40 for Super 98 and Dh 4.80 for diesel, according to Gulf News. At an exchange rate of around Rs 25.69 per dirham on October 22, these prices work out to approximately Rs 108.17, Rs 109.95, Rs 113.03 and Rs 123.31 per litre, respectively.

The comparison places petrol in Chandigarh, New Delhi, Noida and Lucknow below the UAE’s Special 95 rate. Petrol was priced at Rs 101.54 per litre in Chandigarh, Rs 102.12 in New Delhi, Rs 101.96 in Noida and Rs 101.86 in Lucknow. By contrast, petrol prices in Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad were higher than the UAE’s Special 95 equivalent, at Rs 111.21, Rs 113.51 and Rs 116.15 per litre.

The comparison varies by petrol grade and city, and Indian and UAE fuel specifications may not be directly equivalent. The figures are therefore indicative rather than a like-for-like assessment of identical products.

Diesel presents a more consistent contrast. The UAE’s converted October price of approximately Rs 123.31 per litre was above the diesel prices listed for all the Indian cities in the comparison. The highest Indian diesel rates were recorded in Thiruvananthapuram at Rs 104.40 per litre and Hyderabad at Rs 104.23, while Chandigarh recorded the lowest at Rs 89.47.

The UAE reviews fuel prices every month, linking them to international energy-market conditions. Super 98 petrol rose from Dh 3.80 per litre in September to Dh 4.40 in October. Special 95 increased from Dh 3.69 to Dh 4.28, E-Plus 91 from Dh 3.61 to Dh 4.21, and diesel from Dh 4.30 to Dh 4.80.

The October increase followed concerns over supply disruptions, geopolitical tensions and higher shipping costs. Brent crude rose above $110 per barrel in October, according to the report. The UAE’s next fuel-price revision is due at the end of October, while November rates had not been announced as of October 22.
