A Thane fire broke out at an electrical shop and bike service centre in Keni Nagar, within Wagle Estate in Thane West, on Monday afternoon, damaging electrical equipment, chemicals and documents. No injuries were reported, according to civic authorities.
The fire was reported at around 12.59 pm at premises containing an electrical shop and a bike service centre. The blaze engulfed a plastic shed and documents stored on the mezzanine floor, officials said. The mezzanine slab subsequently collapsed, causing additional damage inside the premises.
Drums containing Isophthalic Polyester Resin Chemical and Epoxy Polyurethane Paint, along with electric coils and electrical wiring, were completely gutted in the fire. The presence of chemicals and electrical materials required a coordinated response from fire and disaster-management teams.
Fire brigade personnel and staff from the Regional Disaster Management Cell reached the site and brought the situation under control. The response operation involved two water tankers, two fire engines, one high-rise fire vehicle and one rescue vehicle. Disaster Management Cell personnel also attended the scene in a pickup vehicle.
Officials from the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited and Wagle Estate Police Station were present at the site. Local corporator Eknath Bhoir also visited the premises. The report did not state the cause of the fire or provide an estimate of the financial damage.
The incident occurred on the same day as a separate fire at the headquarters of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation in the Bhayandar area of Thane district. That blaze was reported at around 8 am and was brought under control in less than an hour, according to a civic fire official.
Records belonging to the civic body’s health department were destroyed in the Mira Bhayandar fire, officials said. The blaze was confined to the affected area of the municipal building, and no injuries were reported. Firefighters reached the headquarters shortly after receiving information about the incident.
The two incidents involved different premises and response operations. In Wagle Estate, the official response included industrial-safety, electricity and police personnel alongside fire and disaster-management teams. At the Mira Bhayandar civic headquarters, the fire was contained within the affected area and extinguished in under an hour.
