Chennai Rain Uproots Three Trees, Damages Homes and Vehicles

Chennai rain led to three trees being uprooted in separate incidents across Perambur, Abiramapuram and Adyar, damaging two houses, a parked car and two motorcycles. No injuries were reported, while Greater Chennai Corporation workers, fire and rescue personnel and police cleared the affected roads and removed the fallen trees.

In Perambur, a large raintree fell on the front roof of a house on Sivagnanam Street. Two motorcycles parked near the house were also damaged, along with a water pipe in front of the property. Sembium police, fire and rescue personnel and Corporation workers reached the location, removed the tree and cleared the road for movement.

A separate incident occurred on Dr Rangan Road in Abiramapuram, where a roadside tree snapped and fell early on Monday. The tree damaged a car belonging to Sathya of Mylapore. Fire and rescue personnel and Corporation workers removed the fallen tree and restored traffic movement on the road.

In Karpagam Garden, Adyar, a 50-year-old tree was uprooted on First Cross Street and fell on the roof of an adjacent house. Corporation workers were deployed to clear the tree from the site. The report did not specify the extent of damage to the house.

The incidents took place as continuous rain caused waterlogging in several parts of Chennai. Greater Chennai Corporation officials and fire and rescue department personnel deployed workers to clear fallen trees and drain accumulated rainwater from affected areas. The response combined road clearance with efforts to remove standing water, both of which are necessary to restore access during heavy rain.

Residents were advised to exercise caution near old trees and to avoid standing beneath large branches during rain. The immediate municipal response remained focused on clearing roads, removing fallen trees and draining accumulated rainwater from the affected locations.
