Telangana Industries Get Export Push as State Targets Global Supply Chains

Telangana is planning to connect local industries with global supply chains and develop every district into an economic growth centre, Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu said at an outreach programme in Hyderabad on Monday.

Addressing the Mega Free Trade Agreements (FTA) Outreach Programme at T-Hub, the Minister said exports would be central to India’s long-term economic ambitions and that recently concluded and ongoing FTAs were creating opportunities for domestic industries to access international markets.

The State government will guide industries and exporters, particularly Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, on understanding the agreements and using the market access they provide, Sridhar Babu said. The administration’s stated objective is to ensure that products made in Telangana reach countries with which India has entered into FTA partnerships.

The announcement places district-level production at the centre of Telangana’s export strategy. According to the Minister, the government is working to identify products specific to each district and promote their manufacturing, processing and exports. The approach is intended to strengthen local industrial ecosystems rather than concentrate economic activity only in the State’s main urban centres.

For districts, such a strategy would link production more closely with processing, exporter support and access to international buyers. The Minister said the effort could create new opportunities for economic growth and employment across districts. The report did not specify the districts, products, export targets or implementation timelines involved in the proposed programme.

The government also wants to identify agricultural produce left over after domestic requirements are met and channel it into export markets. Sridhar Babu said this would help prevent valuable produce from going to waste. The proposal connects agricultural output with processing and export systems, although the government has not yet outlined the mechanisms that will be used to aggregate, store, process or ship the surplus.

The focus on MSMEs is significant because smaller businesses often need assistance to understand trade agreements and comply with requirements for entering overseas markets. The Minister said the State would guide such enterprises and exporters on the opportunities created by FTAs, but the statement did not provide details of the support institutions, financial assistance or technical programmes that will be available.

The outreach programme was held at T-Hub in Hyderabad, placing the export discussion within the city’s wider innovation and enterprise ecosystem. The State’s stated plan now combines three goals: helping local industries reach international supply chains, promoting district-specific products and converting surplus agricultural produce into exportable goods.

Further details on the products to be prioritised, the districts to be covered and the support framework for MSMEs will determine how the announcement is implemented. The government’s next steps are expected to involve identifying district-specific products and guiding industries and exporters on using India’s FTA partnerships.
