A special inspection of 28 child-care and observation homes in Thane district will be conducted this week by Women and Child Development Department officials from Sangli, with authorities set to assess facilities, child safety, administration and compliance with prescribed norms.
The inspection will also cover adoption institutions in the district. Officials will visit the institutions and examine whether the facilities available to children are adequate for their needs, according to the report. The exercise will focus on the actual conditions at the institutions rather than relying only on records and paperwork.
The inspection is expected to cover accommodation, cleanliness, drinking water, food arrangements, healthcare, education, recreation and play facilities, as well as other basic requirements. Officials will also review the measures taken to protect children and the conditions in which they are housed.
The review will examine the daily functioning of the institutions, the care provided to children, staffing arrangements, required registers and the administrative action taken by the institutions. Authorities will check whether children admitted to the homes are receiving facilities required under government norms and whether the institutions are following applicable rules and guidelines.
According to the report, any shortcoming, irregularity or absence of essential facilities will be recorded separately. A detailed report will be prepared for each institution and submitted to the commissionerate. The findings are expected to inform further action and directions from the department.
The decision to send officials from another district to conduct the inspection is intended to support objectivity and transparency in the review process. Sangli district officials from the Women and Child Development Department will visit the Thane institutions and independently assess their facilities and management systems.
The inspection comes against the need to ensure that children staying in child-care and observation homes receive a safe, clean and appropriate environment. The institutions accommodate children admitted for different reasons, making the assessment of their living conditions, security and basic services a key part of the exercise.
Namita Shinde, Thane district women and child development officer, said the district’s child-care homes, observation homes and adoption institutions would be reviewed and that a report would be prepared and sent to the commissionerate. Further action will be taken according to the instructions issued after the review.
The inspection schedule is expected to proceed during the current week, with the findings from the visits forming the basis for subsequent administrative action.
