Visakhapatnam | September 8, 2026 — Hyderabad-based Vishnu Chemicals Ltd and France’s DCX Chrome SAS have signed a definitive joint venture agreement to establish a greenfield Visakhapatnam chromium plant with an installed capacity of 6,000 tonnes a year.
The proposed facility will produce high-purity chromium metal for applications including aerospace, nuclear energy, deep-water oil exploration and chemical processing. Vishnu Chemicals and DCX Chrome will each hold a 50 per cent stake in the joint venture company.
The agreement brings together Vishnu Chemicals, a specialty chemical manufacturer, and DCX Chrome, a producer of high-purity aluminothermic chromium metal and specialised chromium powders. The facility is planned for Visakhapatnam, where it will add specialised manufacturing capacity to the city’s industrial base.
According to the companies, the joint venture will use DCX Chrome’s proprietary process technology. The partners said the technology will enable domestic production designed to meet stringent global aerospace standards. Vishnu Chemicals will provide the proposed venture with an uninterrupted supply of chrome oxide green, a raw material used in the manufacturing process.
Krishna Murthy Cherukuri, chairman and managing director of Vishnu Chemicals, described the agreement as a step towards expanding the company’s presence in specialty chemicals and strengthening India’s manufacturing capabilities. He also linked the partnership to the country’s self-reliance objectives.
Fernando Accioly, chief executive officer of DCX Chrome SAS, said the facility would combine DCX Chrome’s aluminothermic technology and industrial experience with Vishnu Chemicals’ operational capabilities and raw material supply. The French company has more than 80 years of industrial expertise, according to the statement carried by the companies.
The proposed annual capacity of 6,000 tonnes will be dedicated entirely to high-purity chromium metal. The announcement did not provide the project’s investment value, construction schedule, land details or expected commissioning date.
The partners said the joint venture is intended to serve long-term demand from the global aviation, nuclear energy, deep-water oil exploration and chemical process industries. The agreement marks the latest proposed addition to Visakhapatnam’s industrial infrastructure, although the companies have not yet disclosed the facility’s implementation milestones.
The next steps will involve establishing the joint venture company and progressing the proposed greenfield facility. Vishnu Chemicals and DCX Chrome did not announce a construction or commissioning timeline in the information available.
