Thane-Belapur Road Traffic Block: Four Night Closures Announced

The Thane-Belapur Road will be closed to traffic for six hours on four nights in October to allow girder installation for the Airoli-Katai Naka bridge in Navi Mumbai, with authorities announcing separate diversion routes for heavy and light vehicles.

According to a report by Loksatta – Navi Mumbai, the closures will be imposed near Bharat Bijlee and Siemens companies in Airoli from 11 pm to 6 am on October 4, 9, 10 and 11, 2026. The restrictions are intended to ensure safety while the bridge construction work is carried out.

All types of vehicles will be prohibited from entering, exiting or parking on the affected stretch during the closure hours. Vehicles belonging to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, or MMRDA, that are connected with the work have been exempted from the restriction.

The Navi Mumbai traffic department has appealed to motorists who normally use the Thane-Belapur Road at night to use the designated alternative routes. The diversions have been differentiated by vehicle size and direction of travel.

Six-wheeled vehicles and vehicles larger than six-wheelers travelling from Thane towards Belapur will be permitted to proceed from Mukund Company in Digha via the internal roads of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, or MIDC. The route is intended for larger vehicles that cannot use the diversion prescribed for smaller vehicles.

Four-wheeled vehicles travelling through the affected area have been directed to turn right at Bharat Bijlee Chowk. They can then travel via Airoli Fire Brigade Chowk and Khedekar Chowk before continuing towards their intended destination.

The closures will affect a key road corridor connecting industrial, commercial and residential areas across the Thane-Belapur belt during the night-time work window. The traffic department’s directions require motorists to plan for the closure period rather than approach the restricted section, where movement and parking will not be allowed.

The restrictions are linked specifically to girder installation for the Airoli-Katai Naka bridge. The traffic department has not stated in the supplied notification how long each girder operation will take within the six-hour window or whether the work schedule will change after the four announced nights. For now, the notified closures apply on October 4, 9, 10 and 11, from 11 pm until 6 am the following morning.
