Tata Power Renewable Energy Adds 419 MW, Targets 12 GW

Tata Power Renewable Energy added 419 MW of utility-scale generation capacity between July and September 2026, more than double the 182 MW commissioned during the same period a year earlier, the company said on Monday. The expansion has taken its utility-scale operational portfolio to 7.2 GW, strengthening its presence in India’s renewable energy and storage infrastructure.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) also executed 131.2 MWhr of storage projects during the second quarter of FY27, according to a company statement. Its operational portfolio now comprises 5.8 GW of solar capacity, 1.3 GW of wind capacity and 281.2 MWhr of battery energy storage capacity.

The company said several projects were commissioned during the first half of FY27. These include the 100.8-MW Jewali Wind Project, the Kalasar FDRE Project, comprising 227.5 MW of solar capacity and a 101.2-MWhr Battery Energy Storage System, the 100-MW Kayathar Group Captive Project and the 72.5-MW Tata Steel Captive Project.

TPREL said more than 2 GW of projects are expected to be executed during the second half of FY27. This includes 1,075 MW of solar capacity, 969 MW of wind capacity and 274 MWhr of battery storage. Up to 300 MW of third-party projects are also expected to be executed during the period, in addition to the company’s in-house projects.

By the end of FY27, close to 9.3 GW of projects are expected to have been executed, comprising 6,899 MW of solar capacity, 2,298 MW of wind capacity and 555.2 MWhr of battery storage, the company said. The additions reflect the increasing role of storage alongside renewable generation, allowing power infrastructure to combine variable solar and wind output with battery-backed capacity.

TPREL said the remaining projects planned for FY28 include about 2.6 GW of capacity, comprising 570 MW of solar capacity, 1,700 MW of wind capacity and 350 MWhr of battery storage. Completion of these projects is expected to take the company’s overall operational capacity to 12 GW by FY28. TPREL is a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Limited and is among India’s largest renewable energy companies.
