Tata Power’s TP Solar facility in Tirunelveli has posted one of the highest annual outputs in India’s solar manufacturing sector, producing 3.3 gigawatts (GW) of solar modules and 846 megawatts (MW) of solar cells during FY2024–25, according to company data released on Saturday.
The Nellai facility not only contributed significantly to India’s clean energy capacity but also stood out for its inclusive workforce model. Over 80% of its employees are women from surrounding communities—a rare feat in Indian manufacturing and a benchmark for gender diversity in the industrial sector. The plant is among the country’s most technologically advanced integrated solar manufacturing units.
It delivered ₹5,337 crore in revenue and posted ₹422 crore in net profit after tax in the financial year ending March 2025. TP Solar’s performance has bolstered Tata Power’s clean energy goals and supported India’s larger mission for energy independence. The company aims to ramp up domestic solar manufacturing to meet rising demand and reduce reliance on imports. The Tirunelveli plant’s strong numbers also signal Tamil Nadu’s growing role in India’s green energy economy.
With high output and inclusive employment, the plant is shaping up as a national model for sustainable and equitable industrial growth.
