Vijayawada, Guntur and Mangalagiri-Tadepalli civic bodies received state-level recognition at the Swachh Andhra Awards 2026 for sanitation, waste management, environmental initiatives and public participation. The awards were presented in Vijayawada by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu during a ceremony organised on Friday for Swachh Diwas.
The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) was named the state-level ‘Swachh City’. NTR district Collector and VMC Special Officer Dr G Lakshmisha and Commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra received the award. VMC also won a state-level honour in the Vayu Sarvekshan–Swachh Vayu category for cities with populations of three lakh and above.
Dhyanachandra said the two awards recognised the corporation’s sustained efforts to keep Vijayawada clean, green and pollution-free. He also underlined the importance of public participation and credited sanitation workers, civic officials, staff, residents, non-governmental organisations, voluntary organisations and the media for the achievement.
Guntur Municipal Corporation received awards in three categories. Commissioner K. Mayur Ashok accepted the ‘Swachh Municipality’ award from the Chief Minister. Guntur secured second place in the category for cities with populations of three lakh and above and also received the Vayu Sarvekshan–Swachh Vayu award.
The Guntur civic body attributed its recognition to 100 per cent door-to-door waste collection, waste segregation, vermicomposting and processing through material recovery facility centres. It also cited dust-control measures, greenery initiatives and enforcement against single-use plastic as part of its work.
LIC Colony–Teja Welfare Association in Guntur won first prize in the Swachh Housing Colonies category. The colony was recognised for segregation of waste at source, composting, maintaining cleanliness in vacant plots and implementing the reduce, reuse and recycle approach.
The Mangalagiri-Tadepalli Municipal Corporation received a state-level award in the Swachh Municipalities category for cities with populations between one lakh and three lakh. Commissioner Shaik Aleem Basha and Assistant Commissioner P. Srinivasa Rao received the award and certificate.
The civic body was recognised for sanitation and waste-management measures, cleanliness drives and public-awareness programmes. Its officials said the award reflected the combined efforts of civic staff, sanitation workers and residents.
