South Odisha Heavy Rain Warning: Winds May Reach 70 Kmph

South Odisha is likely to see heavy to very heavy rain and strong winds over the next three days under the influence of Cyclone Murasu, with gusts expected to reach 70 kmph in several districts on 3 November, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre.

The centre’s director, Manorama Mohanty, said the impact of the weather system would begin increasing from 2 November. Ganjam and Gajapati districts are expected to receive heavy rain on that day, while wind gusts in South Odisha may reach 60 kmph.

Rain is forecast to intensify across most parts of South Odisha on 3 November. Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri may receive very heavy rain on both 3 and 4 November, with the weather situation expected to remain broadly similar across the two days.

Wind conditions are also expected to strengthen during the period. On 3 November, winds may reach speeds of 50 to 60 kmph, while gusts could rise to 70 kmph, the meteorological centre said. The forecast places both coastal and southern upland districts within the affected area, including locations with road and public infrastructure exposed to intense rain and wind.

The forecast has implications for movement and day-to-day activity across the five districts named in the warning. Heavy rain can affect road conditions and local mobility, while strong gusts may place additional pressure on exposed structures, utility networks and roadside assets. The source report does not provide details of any current disruption, evacuation order or district-level response measures.

The weather system’s influence is expected to weaken from 5 November. After that, rainfall is likely to become limited to isolated locations, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre. The immediate forecast period remains 2 to 4 November, when South Odisha is expected to experience the strongest combination of rain and wind.
