The under-construction IPD (In-Patient Department) tower at SMS Hospital in Jaipur will retain its originally envisioned 24 floors, health minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar affirmed on Monday. Despite facing financial constraints, the project remains on track for completion by August 2025, with the state government actively addressing the financial challenges impeding its progress.
During his inspection of the construction site, Minister Khinvsar emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving the financial issues plaguing the project. With a significant portion of the tower’s structure already in place, there will be no alterations to the planned number of floors, ensuring the tower’s completion as envisioned.
Earlier this year, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) had issued a communication to SMS Hospital and the Rajasthan Housing Board, indicating its intention to deliver the facility with only 14 floors constructed out of the planned 17 if outstanding dues amounting to Rs 213.48 crore were not settled. These financial discrepancies are set to be addressed in the upcoming empowered committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
Minister Khinvsar directed officials overseeing the project to expedite construction activities while maintaining stringent quality standards and ensuring the facility is conducive to patient care. The construction will progress in phases, with regular monitoring to ensure timely completion.
In addition to the tower itself, plans include the development of an underground parking facility capable of accommodating 600 vehicles. Originally, parking for only 190 vehicles was proposed, but in consideration of the anticipated patient load, this was deemed insufficient. Efforts to widen surrounding roads to facilitate smoother traffic flow near the tower are also underway.
Despite the financial challenges encountered, the SMS Hospital’s IPD tower project remains resolute in its goal to enhance healthcare infrastructure in Jaipur. The commitment of the state government, coupled with proactive measures to address financial constraints, underscores the significance of this project in meeting the healthcare needs of the community. With a steadfast focus on quality and efficiency, the completion of the IPD tower by August 2025 is anticipated to significantly augment the hospital’s capacity to serve the public.
