Short circuit sparks fire in scrapyard, 35 Skoda cars gutted

Noida: A devastating fire erupted in a vacant plot located in the phase-1 area of the city, resulting in the destruction of 35 Skoda cars.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident, though the fire department expended considerable effort over two hours to extinguish the flames. The precise cause of the fire remains undetermined; however, fire officials suspect that a short-circuit within one of the parked cars may have triggered the blaze. Upon receiving the distress call around 3.25 pm on Sunday, six fire tenders were promptly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a formidable challenge as the fire had already engulfed the entire area, necessitating swift and coordinated action to contain its spread. With the flames rapidly advancing, efforts were focused on controlling the inferno from six different directions.

Further investigation revealed that the plot had been utilized as a scrapyard for vehicles since 2016, with all the vehicles present identified as Skoda cars. Interestingly, inquiries made with local residents regarding the owner of the scrapyard yielded no conclusive information, highlighting potential regulatory oversight in the management of such establishments. While the precise extent of the financial losses incurred remains to be assessed, the incident underscores the critical importance of implementing stringent safety protocols and regulatory measures to mitigate the risk of such catastrophic events in the future.
