Sealdah local train cancellations and route changes have been announced for Saturday and Sunday as Eastern Railway carries out maintenance work at Kalyani and Kanchrapara stations in the Sealdah division. Around 27 up and down suburban services will be cancelled during the planned power block, while several other trains will terminate or originate before their scheduled destinations.
According to a railway notification reported by Sangbad Pratidin, the work will cover maintenance of the down line and overhead equipment at the two stations. The block is scheduled to begin at 10.30 pm on Saturday, 31 October, and continue until 5.30 am on Sunday, 1 November. The report describes the operational interruption as a seven-hour block.
The changes will affect services on several important suburban routes connecting Sealdah with Ranaghat, Shantipur, Krishnanagar, Gede, Kalyani Simanta and Lalgola. The cancellations are expected to affect both up and down services during the maintenance window and the surrounding operating period specified by the railway notification.
On 31 October, the 31629, 31631 and 63111 up Sealdah–Ranaghat locals, along with the 31632 and 31634 down services, will remain cancelled, according to the report. The 31539 and 31541 up and 31538 and 31542 down Sealdah–Shantipur locals will also not operate. The 31841 up and 31844 down Krishnanagar locals, as well as the 31929 up and 31928 down Sealdah–Gede locals, are among the other services listed for cancellation.
The 31192 Kalyani Simanta local and the 33431 up and 33432 Sealdah–Lalgola locals are also scheduled to remain cancelled on Saturday. The Sealdah–Dattapukur local service has likewise been included in the cancellation list.
On Sunday, the 31191 Naihati–Sealdah Kalyani Simanta local will be cancelled. The 31611 up and 31612 Sealdah–Ranaghat locals, 31511 up and 31512 down Sealdah–Shantipur locals, 31811 up and 31812 down Sealdah–Krishnanagar locals, and 31911 up and 31912 down Sealdah–Gede locals will also remain suspended, the report said.
Some services will not be cancelled but will run over shortened routes. On 31 October, train 631106, the down Lalgola–Sealdah service, will terminate at Ranaghat instead of Sealdah. The 31341 up service on Saturday and the 31311 up Sealdah–Kalyani Simanta service on Sunday will terminate at Naihati instead of Kalyani Simanta.
For Sunday operations, the 31312 down and 31314 down Kalyani Simanta locals will originate from Naihati rather than Kalyani Simanta. The railway has issued the changes in advance because the maintenance work involves both track infrastructure and overhead electrical equipment, requiring a temporary interruption to train operations.
