South Central Railway has intensified inspections and surveillance at stations and on trains across its network, warning passengers not to carry firecrackers, explosives, inflammable liquids or other hazardous materials during the Diwali travel period.
The railway’s advisory is aimed at preventing prohibited items from being transported on trains or stored on railway premises. SCR said such materials pose a serious threat to passenger safety and railway property, particularly during a period when passenger movement increases for festive travel.
Passengers have been asked to cooperate with railway staff and comply with safety regulations while travelling. The advisory covers firecrackers as well as explosives, inflammable liquids and other hazardous materials, making clear that the restriction extends beyond items intended for personal use during celebrations.
SCR said carrying prohibited materials is a punishable offence under Section 164 of the Railways Act, 1989. Violators may face a fine of up to Rs 1,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both, according to the advisory.
The intensified checks form part of the railway’s surveillance measures at stations and on trains. The stated objective is to identify and prevent the movement of hazardous materials before they create a risk to passengers, railway staff or railway assets.
The advisory also places responsibility on passengers to report suspicious materials or activity. Complaints and alerts can be communicated to railway authorities through the Railway Security Helpline 139 or the Rail Madad portal.
SCR has urged passengers to remain vigilant and immediately inform railway officials if they notice explosive, inflammable or otherwise suspicious materials. The railway has also appealed to travellers to cooperate with security and operating staff to support safe and hassle-free movement during the festive season.
The warning comes as part of SCR’s Diwali safety arrangements, with inspections and surveillance continuing at railway stations and on trains. Passengers are expected to follow the restrictions and use the designated reporting channels for any safety concern.
