Sabarmati-Muzaffarpur Special Trains Add Relief for Festival Rush

The Sabarmati-Muzaffarpur special train service will operate four unreserved trips to manage the expected passenger rush during the Diwali and Chhath festival period, with departures from Sabarmati on 7 and 14 November and return journeys from Muzaffarpur on 9 and 16 November. The service has been announced by Western Railway for passengers travelling towards Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Train number 09473, the Sabarmati-Muzaffarpur unreserved special, will depart from Sabarmati at 7 pm on 7 and 14 November. It will reach Muzaffarpur at 4.30 am on the following Monday, according to the schedule reported by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad.

The return service, train number 09474, will leave Muzaffarpur at 7.30 am on 9 and 16 November. It will arrive at Sabarmati at 5 pm on the following Tuesday. Both services will run without reservation and passengers will have to purchase tickets at the applicable special fare.

The trains will stop at a long list of stations in both directions, linking the Sabarmati area with major urban and regional centres across western, northern and eastern India. The listed stops include Kalol, Mehsana, Palanpur, Abu Road, Marwar Junction, Ajmer, Phulera, Jaipur, Bandikui, Bharatpur, Achhnera, Idgah Agra, Tundla, Kanpur Central, Subedarganj, Gyanpur Road, Banaras, Varanasi, Aunrihar, Ballia, Surেমanpur, Chhapra, Sonpur and Hajipur.

The additional service is aimed at easing pressure on regular trains during a period when large numbers of passengers travel from Gujarat and other western states towards their home regions in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The unreserved format allows passengers to travel without advance seat reservations, although the trains will operate on special-fare tickets and passengers will not have reserved berths.

For passengers planning the journey, the key operational distinction is that the service is not a regular reserved train. Travel dates, departure times, stopping stations and special-fare conditions will therefore need to be checked before tickets are purchased. The four scheduled trips are the 7 and 14 November departures from Sabarmati and the 9 and 16 November return departures from Muzaffarpur.
