In the wake of heightened geopolitical tensions following precision military strikes in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), the Indian Ministry of Railways has issued a critical security advisory to all its personnel.
The Railway Board has sounded a nationwide alert, warning that hostile foreign actors may attempt to infiltrate communication channels under the guise of civilians to extract sensitive logistical information concerning military train movements. The advisory, viewed as a proactive step to protect India’s strategic infrastructure, comes days after a tri-service operation was conducted by Indian defence forces in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Sources within the Railway Ministry confirmed that officials have been cautioned that operatives from across the border could disguise themselves as ordinary callers in order to gather details of military movements via the rail network. Such intelligence, if compromised, could pose serious national security risks, particularly as the country maintains a state of high operational readiness.
Officials have been sternly instructed to maintain utmost discretion and report any unsolicited or suspicious communication to higher authorities. “No sensitive information must be shared with any unauthorised person,” the advisory reiterated, adding that breaches will be treated as serious violations of national interest. Military Railways, which operates as a specialised division under Indian Railways, remains a crucial logistical link in India’s defence framework, often managing the rapid mobilisation of troops and equipment during conflict or emergencies.
The alert issued by the Railway Board aligns with broader national security precautions taken after India’s recent targeted strikes on terror infrastructure in PoK. As per defence briefings, the strikes executed under the code name Operation Sindoor aimed to dismantle key logistics and operational nodes believed to be supporting anti-India militant networks. The operation, reportedly conducted between 1:05 am and 1:30 am, involved air and ground assets working in precision coordination. On the civil side, airspace restrictions have already caused ripple effects across major airports. Leading domestic airline IndiGo confirmed it had cancelled over 165 flights, particularly in northern cities such as Amritsar and Srinagar, and advised passengers to stay updated with real-time flight status. The disruption is anticipated to extend into May 10. The carrier assured travellers of full refunds or the flexibility to reschedule at no extra cost.
This multi-tiered response underscores the rising stakes in India’s border security framework and highlights the interconnectedness of civil and military logistics in times of conflict. Railway officials have not only been asked to follow strict communication protocols but have also been reminded of the moral and national duty they carry during volatile times. While the Ministry of Railways has refrained from disclosing any specific breach or incident, the language and urgency of the advisory reflect a defensive posture necessary to counter covert threats. As the situation along the border remains sensitive, authorities across sectors are doubling down on security measures to ensure no vital information slips through the cracks.
